School Residencies

Red Yarn Productions offers residency programs for schools through Young Audiences and the Right Brain Initiative. Residencies can be adapted for different age levels and to connect to various units of study. Below is a description of RYP’s Young Audiences residency:

Folk Song Puppet Show

Folk songs and puppetry are two of the most ancient, most engaging methods of storytelling. What happens when you combine the two? In this 4-5 day residency, Andy will help students adapt a classic folk song into a lively musical puppet show. After learning to sing a fun folk song, students will dig into its lyrics to pull out the narrative. They’ll make elaborate sock puppets of the song’s characters and learn puppetry techniques. Finally, the class will perform their musical puppet show for the community. This program supports students’ literacy, historical understanding, musical aptitude and performance skills. Folk songs can be chosen to connect to current curriculum or student interests.

To schedule this program at your school,  contact Josephine Kuever at Young Audiences.

Enrichment Classes

RYP also offers enrichment classes for school-age afterschool programs (though most can be adapted for elementary or preschools). Classes are designed for a maximum of 15 students. Classes can be adapted for more students with additional staff support. Most classes require at least 8 sessions. For a price quote or to customize a class for your afterschool program,  EMAIL Andy Furgeson at or call (503) 577-0445.
