January newsletter

Happy new year! (A little late, I know.) I hope you had wonderful holidays. My wife and I enjoyed a great trip to Texas and some relaxing time in Portland, too. We’re gearing up for a big change in our lives: our first baby is due in less than a month! (Due date is 2/11.) I’m hoping to take at least two weeks off once the baby comes, so keep an eye on my Facebook page and website for updates. We feel blessed to bring a child into such a loving community, and all you Red Yarn supporters are a big part of that!

In other big news, I was recently awarded a grant from the Regional Arts & Culture Council to produce the pilot episode of The Deep Woods kids’ TV show! I have a talented crew of artists on-board to help. The project must be completed in 2014; hopefully we’ll have something to show by the fall. Stay tuned!

I’m also excited to be launching a music program at Joyful Noise Child Development Centers, and to lead residencies at Atkinson, Arleta, Woodstock and Happy Valley elementary schools this winter and spring.

Finally, I’m thrilled to be a part of the Rainy Day Family, a new collective of children’s entertainers including the Alphabeticians, Penny’s Puppets, Tallulah’s Daddy, Pointed Man Band and more. We have our first group show on Sunday, January 26 from 4-5:30pm at the Village Ballroom. Tickets are for sale online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/549562. I suggest you buy in advance, because these big shows at Village Ballroom have been selling out.

Thanks for all your ongoing support! Hope to see you soon!

Dear Friends,

Hooray for October! My debut album, The Deep Woods, will be officially released on the 15th (but those sneaky critters are already selling CDs at my shows). Digital and CD pre-orders are available now at redyarn.bandcamp.com.  My 7-piece band will celebrate with TWO shows: one for adults on Sat, Oct 19 at the Waypost and one for families on Sun, Oct 20 at Village Ballroom. Buy tickets now for the family show!

Kids are encouraged to dress as their favorite critters!

The album is already getting a bit of radio play, and we’re crossing our fingers for some good press, too. Follow Red Yarn on Facebook for updates.

Find our full performance schedule below or visit the calendar on our new website. Please note, I won’t be at TreeHouse this Thursday, but an excellent family performer named Chuck Cheesman (new to town from AZ) will fill in for me.

I hope to see you and your families soon!

June Newsletter & Calendar

Wow! Summer is nearly upon us. Hard to believe that it’s been a full year since I took the plunge into Red Yarn Productions as my full-time job. Thanks to all of your support, it’s been a success and an amazing experience so far. I’m excited for the summer–many changes and big projects are afoot. I hope your family has some fun plans too!
Due to a busy summer schedule of out-of-town shows, camps, and travel, I’m going on hiatus from my weekly shows after next week. I will miss seeing so many of your families each week, but you can catch me in Portland most weekends. I will resume my regular shows in September. During June, July and August I’ll be at Mississippi Pizza each 3rd Saturday from 4-5pm, and at Treehouse Boutique each 4th Saturday morning from 10-10:45am. Plus libraries, street fairs, and other events (see flyer and June schedule below).
I’m also making good progress on my album, The Deep Woods. On Wednesday, June 19, you’re invited to a Community Recording Session at the lovely Village Ballroom from 9:30-11am. Bring your family to help me record group vocals, stomps, claps and crowd sounds. There will be free snacks and coffee, and participants will receive an advance mp3 single from the album. All ages are welcome, but know that this will not be a typical show. It will require some patience and quiet focus. I would love to have your and your children’s voices on my record. Thanks to Woodlawn Swap’n’Play for helping organize this free event!
For schedule updates, news, and photos from my summer adventures, you can follow me on FacebookInstagram or Twitter.
